For all schools: an exciting, highly popular, proven program, flexible in structure to fit individual timetables; for a full school assembly, or for a select group of interested students such as a music program ensemble, i.e. in a jazz band or concert band rehearsal time slot. This program runs about an hour with flexibility to suit your needs.

The repertoire demonstrates the art of improvised music, as far back as the time of Bach and Mozart and how it grew and developed into “jazz” through the big band era and on … including its direct influence on the birth of rock music. In the course of the performance the students will be given the opportunity to interact with the musicians, see and hear how each instrument adds its own “flavour” to the mix and they will directly participate in special segments of the show.

For all ages: Most elementary schools have had the entire student body from JK through Grade 8 attend, with highly successful results. Teacher, administration and students will enjoy an ear-opening experience, both entertaining and informative, and inspiring an interest in the origins and constantly evolving directions of improvised music.

The new ensemble and new computer music component: : To make the concert more economically feasible the group size has been trimmed from five to two musicians (with a third as an option).

"I decided to put my 25 years of experience with computer music programs itno the "Jazz it Up" show by arranging and recording rhythm section parts for all the songs. This allows the cost of the show to be lower since number of musicians needed was cut by half. While the sound of the concert won't suffer, the educational experience actually is enhanced since I will describe the computer music process, both in how I did it for live perfomance and how it is used in virtually all music recording in the modern era." (Joe Edmonds)

Instruments featured include: 3 types of saxophone, trombone, flute, trumpet, guitar and optional - drum kit

Response to this program has been unanimously positive, with rave reviews from students and school staff. For a list of performances to-date and references please contact Joe Edmonds at 519-645-0745
